BMW 5 Series Mileage Blocker

Overview

The BMW 5 Series mileage blocker is a vehicle-specific plug-in module for compatible BMW 5 Series and M5 applications.

The module is designed to control new mileage recording while it is active and connects through the vehicle’s existing wiring. No permanent modification such as cutting or soldering the original wiring is required for the plug-in installation.

The product covers selected G30, G31, G38 and F90 applications, but the chassis and vehicle configuration should be checked before ordering. Comparing your dashboard with the product information and images is also recommended where applicable.

This product is supplied strictly for authorised off-road, dyno testing, motorsport, vehicle development and other permitted applications.

The four chassis codes represent different BMW applications, so do not select the module solely because your vehicle is a 5 Series or M5.

How Does the BMW 5 Series Mileage Blocker Work?

The BMW 5 Series mileage blocker connects to the vehicle through its supplied plug-in connection and controls new mileage recording while the module is active.

It does not change mileage that was already stored in the vehicle. When the module is deactivated or removed, the BMW returns to its normal mileage-recording operation.

The exact operation depends on the vehicle application and configuration. For this reason, the G30, G31, G38 and F90 designation should be checked against the specific product information before installation.

The product is intended only for the permitted applications stated by Smelecom, including off-road, dyno testing, motorsport, vehicle development and tuning use.

Quality and Testing

Each module is prepared for its specified BMW application and checked before dispatch.

The kit includes installation guidance, and professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with BMW vehicle electronics or instrument-cluster connections.

Vehicle-Specific Information

• Cluster/display and software version affect which operating modes apply. Confirm the fitted display/cluster before ordering.

Full Installation Instructions

1. Switch the vehicle off and allow the electrical systems to shut down.
2. Access and remove the instrument cluster using the correct procedure for the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the original cluster / dashboard plug.
4. Connect the module inline between the original vehicle harness and the instrument cluster using the supplied original-style connectors.
5. On harnesses with a Pin 1 marker, align the connector marker correctly and connect the cluster side first.
6. Ensure the plugs are fully seated, secure the module and route the wiring away from sharp edges or moving parts.
7. Refit the cluster and trim.
8. Switch the vehicle back on and verify normal display and vehicle functions.

No cutting or soldering is required.

Activation / Mode Change

• Hold BC until the indicator lights flash; repeat to cycle modes.

Modes

• Mode 1 — 1 flash: speedometer works; 0% mileage. Described for pre-2019 software.
• Mode 2 — 2 flashes: 0% mileage; speedometer does not work. Described for newer software.
• Mode 3 — 3 flashes: speedometer works; 30% mileage.
• Mode 4 — 4 flashes: speedometer works; 50% mileage.
• Mode 5 — 5 flashes: normal operation.

Return To Normal

• Cycle to Mode 5 (5 flashes = normal).

Confirmation

• Indicator flash count identifies the mode.
